Totemic Shifts

public sustainable art sculptures in himalayan mountains

Through the coiling and weaving of discarded materials,
I am considering the limitations we impose on ourselves and
the breadth of our imaginations. These structures allude to shifting tectonic plates unveiling utopian land, and woven detritus
of civilization. Do they rise from the earth, or are they placed
by forces beyond our comprehension?

At its core, my artistic practice is concerned with building fictitious worlds, that serve as a beacons of inclusivity, constructing realms where all are welcome. The Totemic sculptures will travel around the globe, installed in various locations and orientations, as reminders that true freedom is a collective endeavor.

The serene beauty of barren landscapes and secluded monasteries has haunted my dreams for over a decade. This time, I visited not just as a tourist but as an artist.

In June 2024, I traveled to Leh, Ladakh, to showcase my work at sā Ladakh, Asia's highest art festival. My journey was filled with unexpected love and kindness, with the harsh landscape and weather bringing us closer together over warm chai.

Totemic Shifts emerged from two months of laborious stitching and knotting, created partly in Mumbai and completed in Leh. I often worked alone, but others sometimes contributed, turning the creation process into a communal action. Thank you to everyone who helped with this project.

Ladakh’s humbling landscape provided an incredible canvas. Sharing Disko Valley with talented artists from around the world was an honor. This experience has brought new friends and family into my life.

Thank you to everyone who supported and helped make this dream a reality.
