Porosity
In creating my work, I seek isolation or disconnection from reality, whether by design or circumstance. Despite building walls to shield myself, my psyche absorbs everything around me.
In these pieces, I explore unwanted porosity while also creating spaces of belonging that allow for a measured openness. I examine the feelings of sensory overstimulation and the realities of self-isolation, visualizing the sensitivity of the human psyche and the fragility of our boundaries.
I investigate the space between our inner selves and the external world, asking: What seeps into our consciousness? What spills out? How can we protect ourselves from unwanted external factors? During my residency at Hampi Art Labs, I drew on childhood experiences of isolation and imagination to create spaces that cultivate a sense of belonging that thrive in fluidity.
